Monster

Editorial illustration about the Maguindanao massacre ; Digital Monthly bills. Snarling traffic. Breakneck deadlines. I had thought that these were the only monsters people like myself would have to face in today's modern world. I was wrong. Monsters do live amongst us. The massacre at Maguindanao -- now known as the Ampatuan Massacre -- earlier this week proves it. Men who could perpetrate such atrocities are monsters -- no doubt about it.  What they have done should frighten men such as us. It should shake us to our core. What these monsters have perpetrated -- call it as it is -- a savage and terrifying bloodbath,  sickens me. Their barbarity angers me. As it should every man. I realize now that we must fight such darkness. No ifs. No buts. To cower in fear in face of such atrocities leaves us impotent, to turn away from it in revulsion is escapist and to seek a political compromise is inutile. Justice is owed the victims. Justice must be sought, even fought

Wizards and Warriors: The Wandering Wizard

Galagos isn't your ordinary, run-of-the-mill wizard. An incantation gone wrong has left his soul trapped in the body of his familiar, a prissy black cat with wings named Puss. Now, he's searching for the means to gain back his soul and to rid Puss of an unwanted tenant in her body. Another character from my 'Land of Iph: Wizards and Warriors' series. Coreldraw vector illustration.

Wizards and Warriors: The Sentinel

Ages before, the High King of Assuria ordered the creation of a unit of immortal soldiers to act as his bodyguard. Chosen from his most loyal followers, he bound them in service and fealty to himself and his descendants. However, his plans went awry when a cataclysm sank his kingdom into the sea and the spells for making these sentinels were lost. Now, leaderless and scattered in the land of Iph, these immortal warriors seek new kings to follow and new causes to carry. And perhaps, they also seek an escape to the timeless tedium of battle that has become their lives. Another character from my 'Land of Iph: Wizards and Warriors' series. Coreldraw vector illustration.

Sketches from my journal

Sometime ago, my wife Sandie bought me this little craft paper journal and I brought it along some trips. With a ballpoint pen or sometimes a sharpie, I tried to document parts of our journeys. I recently took some pictures of the interior pages since the journal was tightly bound and prevented any kind of flat bed scanning. Enjoy:)

Rock Musical Poster Comp

A comp for a poster; 2010 Here's a poster comp I worked on a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if my design will make the final cut so I removed the title from the comp first and will hopefully upload the final design once the people I'm talking to make up their minds. A comp, or a comprehensive layout or comprehensive, is the page layout of a proposed design as initially presented by the designer to a client, showing the relative positions of text and illustrations before the specific content of those elements has been decided on, as a rough draft of the final layout in which to build around. The brief for the design stressed the need to portray conflict between two men of equal vision but from opposing social classes and the chaos that ensues from that conflict. The headshot is a picture of a friend of mine redrawn in sharpies and scanned then vectorized.

Sick

Digital Sketch; Photoshop The bad weather finally got me. I've been fighting a bad cold for over a week and I seem to be losing. My head hurts and cant seem to focus because of blocked sinuses. And a really runny, leaking and obnoxiously red nose. Time to hit the bed...

QTV 2010 Station I.D. Storyboard

This is the storyboard I made for the 2010 QTV station i.d. As with all storyboards, this one underwent a gazillion permutations/variations/revisions before it was approved and shot. The first versions had fully colored panels but the necessities of time -- or the lack of it -- led to smaller, looser sketches made using wacom tablet. The final board also sported a set of paste-ups and rescans of the original boards -- a veritable Frankenstein's monster of a storyboard! You can view the final video here.

40 years Invite

My parents celebrated 40 years of marriage last December and my brother and sisters threw a party for family and friends. I made the invites and gift tags. We chose a palette of ruby reds and I retouched one of their beautiful wedding pictures taken way back in 1969. Digital printing on special paper.
