WIP: 3 Generations

Another acrylic piece. Here's the underpainting in earthy warm tones. These were brushed in with thick strokes of paint. This was then left to dry. Then the colors I chose for the palette were slathered in using a painting knife. This time, the colors were applied in fast and furious strokes so that the acrylics would still mix while they were wet. The piece was then left to dry. another set of adjustment were made, again with a knife in fast, thick strokes. I'm tasking a break from the summer heat and maybe finish this within the week. The finished piece soon:)

Comps for a portrait project

Here are three comps for a portrait project I'm working on. The composition's very important in making the portrait succesful so I'm still mulling over which one to work on. At this time, I'm going for comp 1. Comp 1 Comp 2 Comp 3 Colored comp to come!

Black and White Thumbnail Sketches

One of my working habits is to doodle brainlessly whenever I find myself getting irritated by designs I have to come up for my day job. It's strange but I find drawing as a good stress reliever, especially if the subject matter is far, far away from the stuff I do on a daily basis. Sometimes, I draw on paper and sometimes straight into Photoshop. Here are a couple of thumbnail doodles I made last week -- Jonah Hex and the Swamp Thing!

Prepping up for Painting in Acrylics

Here are two acrylic paintings I'm working on. These are digital sketches of what I plan to do. Ever since, painting has been a spontaneous act for me, with the composition, colors, strokes, etc being determined as I work on the piece. Nowadays though, I'm planning each step. And the computer has been a very useful tool for this. With Photoshop, I can fool around with the composition and the colors. Although I plan to avoid a heavy outline, the heavy linework in these digital roughs gives me a fresh perspective  in planning out the composition. I drew these roughs with a thick round brush on the exact canvas size I plan to use but only in 72 dpi. This is more for expediency's sake than anything else. Using digital roughs have also made me more conscious of my color choices. Before, I'd grab whichever tube was suitable for me during the actual work. This is why my taboret is extremely messy and crammed with different colors, varieties and brands of paint. By trying ou

April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day

April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day. Autism is a neural development disorder wherein the brain processes information differently. This difference in brain processing makes people with Autism relate to the world differently. They do not and cannot see the world the way we do. They have social impairments and often lack the intuition about others that many people take for granted. My nephew Joaquin was diagnosed with a form of Autism called Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified or PDD-NOS when he was around two years old. Because of early identification and early intervention however, social and familial deficits that his Autism would have most probably caused have been diminished, if not avoided, and he and our family enjoy a significantly better family life.   April 2 is only one day. Help us spread awareness of Autism and the immense challenges people with Autism  like our Joaquin, face 365 days a year. I designed the logo above for my sister, Joaquin'
