Napoleon Abueva (January 26, 1930 – February 16, 2018), more popularly known as Napoleón Abueva, was a Filipino artist. He was a sculptor given the distinction as the Philippines' National Artist for Sculpture. He was also entitled as the "Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture". He was awarded National Artist of the Philippines in the field of Visual Arts.

Filipino National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin. Ballpen and marker [portrait. Nicomedes "Nick" Márquez Joaquín (May 4, 1917 – April 29, 2004) was a Filipino writer, historian and journalist, best known for his short stories and novels in the English language. He also wrote using the pen name Quijano de Manila. Joaquín was conferred the rank and title of National Artist of the Philippines for Literature. He has been considered one of the most important Filipino writers, along with José Rizal and Claro M. Recto. Unlike Rizal and Recto whose masterpieces were written in Spanish, Joaquin's major works, despite being a native Spanish speaker, were written in English.

Tiempo (April 22, 1919 – August 21, 2011), poet, fiction writer, teacher and literary critic was a Filipino writer in the English language.Her poems are intricate verbal transfigurations of significant experiences as revealed, in two of her much anthologized pieces, "Lament for the Littlest Fellow" and "Bonsai." As fictionist, Tiempo is as morally profound. Her language has been marked as "descriptive but unburdened by scrupulous detailing." She is an influential tradition in Philippine Literature in English. Together with her late husband, writer and critic Edilberto K. Tiempo, they founded (in 1962) and directed the Silliman National Writers Workshop in Dumaguete City, which has produced some of the Philippines' best writers.She was conferred the National Artist Award for Literature in 1999.

As part of my job as an art director for a TV station with cable channels offered abroad, I needed to come up with 3 promo plugs to commemorate US Veterans Day on November 11. One of the plugs used brush pen illustrations I made. I enjoyed drawing these images but the originals are a bit small - chosen for expediency's sake, I would have preferred a larger format - and I used a rather large brush pen. Linework was traditionally sketched, scanned then colored in Photoshop. "Portraits" will air on GMA International to commemorate US Veterans' Day on November 11.

He is best known for his rendition of "Bayan Ko", which became the anthem for the opposition to the Marcos regime during the 1986 People Power Revolution,and for his song "Anak", the best-selling Philippine music record of all time. He is heavily associated with Pinoy rock. On October 17, 2013, Aguilar openly admitted, in spite of the controversy that followed, that he is in a relationship with a 16-year-old girl, with plans to marry and even have children, as his partner insisted that she is willing to have a baby. from Wikipedia

Digital illustration; 2009 Made for a broadcast promo about a cult in the Philippines. The cult leader was charismatic and challenged the authorities by holding women hostage as sex slaves. He was mortally wounded in a fire fight with the authorities, his skull cracked open by gunfire. Hundreds of his were aghast when he succumbed to the gunshots-- something he claimed he could avoid by naming himself immortal and adorning his body with amulets of protection.

I'm a big fan of ink and marker illustrations, from fast storyboards, concept thumbnails, product renders, car illustrations, etc. Over the years, I've managed to amass quite a big amount of markers of different brands. Here are some of my favorite markers and some sketches.

Now that some of the country's top politicians have been charged with graft, plunder and malversion raps, traditional media as well as new media is starting to feel the presence of spin doctors ready to "wag the dog." Will these dogs of spin be successful? Let's see. To 'wag the dog' means to purposely divert attention from what would otherwise be of greater importance, to something else of lesser significance. By doing so, the lesser-significant event is catapulted into the limelight, drowning proper attention to what was originally the more important issue. The expression comes from the saying that 'a dog is smarter than its tail', but if the tail were smarter, then the tail would 'wag the dog'. Digital illustration; 2013
