PCIJ Docu on Ampatuan Wealth Promo

Lipat Bahay, PCIJ's documentary on the Ampatuan wealth, is a two-segment documentary on the extent of the real properties of the Ampatuan clan. The patriarch and scions of the clan stand accused as masterminds of the massacre of 58 people, including 32 journalists, in 2009. I designed and art directed the promo plug.

PCIJ: Media Killings Series

The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), in partnership with GMANewsTV Channel 11, broadcasted a five–part documentary on media killings in the Philippines. The PCIJ: Media Killings Series is composed of documentaries exploring the dangerous and violent state of journalism in the country and is PCIJ’s contribution to the global observance of the International Day to End Impunity on Nov, 23, the second anniversary of the Maguindanao Massacre that claimed 58 victims, including 32 media workers. I designed and art directed the plug.

FilipiKnow: Fruit Salad

Another food-centric information capsule I designed and art-directed for GMA News TV's FilipiKnow, this time featuring the ubiquitous fruit salad -- a Filipino favorite. Most of the photos used in the plug were gathered from my collection of food photos, made by family... and eaten by moi! Enjoy!

FilipiKnow: Adobo and Sinigang

These are a set of FilipiKnow information capsules I designed and art directed for GMA News TV. Featured are two of the most popular Filipino dishes -- adobo and sinigang. Adobo is meat, seafood, or vegetables marinated in a sauce of vinegar and garlic, browned in oil, and simmered in the marinade. Considered as the unofficial national dish of the Philippines and probably has the same number of variants as the Philippines has islands. Sinigang is a soup/stew known for its sour and savory flavor derived from ingredients such as tamarind, guava, calamansi, bilimbi, or unripe mango. Made with very limited budget, I decided to do the food styling and photography myself. Then, obviously,  I got to eat the food I shot :)

FilipiKnow: Lisensya

Another FilipiKnow information capsule I art directed and designed for GMA News TV. This video features the steps a Filipino citizen would need to do to either apply for a driver's license for the first time or to renew his current driver's license.

Rizal: Paano Kung...

A plug commemorating Jose Rizal, the Philippine's National Hero; 2012 Art direction, illustration and motion design by myself; Written by Ruth Guhit and animated by GMA Videographics

Remembering Ninoy: Is the Filipino worth dying for?

Is the Filipino worth dying for? 29 years ago, this man answered this question with a resounding "yes."  Can we say the same? The plug tries to answer the question by showing amazing examples of self sacrifice by common Filipino and juxtaposing it the the life and death of Ninoy Aquino. The video was made for GMA News TV in commemoration of Ninoy Aquino's assassination. I art directed the design and motion graphics while Dawn Tan wrote the copy. Animation by GMA Videographics.

QTV 2010 Station I.D. Storyboard

This is the storyboard I made for the 2010 QTV station i.d. As with all storyboards, this one underwent a gazillion permutations/variations/revisions before it was approved and shot. The first versions had fully colored panels but the necessities of time -- or the lack of it -- led to smaller, looser sketches made using wacom tablet. The final board also sported a set of paste-ups and rescans of the original boards -- a veritable Frankenstein's monster of a storyboard! You can view the final video here.
